Alice
Pieszecki is a character on the television show, The L Word on Showtime
that is played by the spectacular actress and musician Leisha Hailey.
Alice is the old school original cast member bisexual who makes her
money by doing freelance writing for LA Magazine and hosting the radio
show, The Chart, on KCRW. She also happens to be the funniest person
on the show and suffers from an incurable case of cuteness.
SEASON
ONE: This season established Alice, first and foremost, as a
wonderful friend. Particularly to Dana who she saw through a hook up
and break up with Lara, coming out to her parents, losing Mr. Piddles,
and getting engaged to Tonya. Until the end of this season, Alice drifted
from one person to another romantically and didn't seem to have any
desire to settle down. Her first romantic hook up was with her longtime
on and off girlfriend, Gabby Deveaux, who once again broke Alice's heart
and proved herself to be a perpetually cheating charmer. Then came Lisa
the Lesbian Man and Andrew. But all of Alice's romances were leading
up to her most important romantic moment of the season. And that's kissing
her closest friend, Dana Fairbanks, at four in the morning after finding
herself unable to explain precisely why Dana can't marry her fiance,
Tonya. The season ended with Alice running away, leaving a stupefied
Dana behind and Alice looking both terrified and perplexed about what
she had done by giving Dana those searing kisses. She soon came home
to find a distraught Tina in her apartment. The finale ended with Alice
comforting Tina, stopping her from trying to draw the painful line that
would connect Bette to Candace.
SEASON
TWO: Things
were quickly established for Alice in regards to her relationship with
Dana. Despite a series of very intense kisses in the bathroom of The
Planet, they wanted to try and stay friends and deny their growing attraction
towards one another. Thus came the creation of The Rules of Unattraction
which detailed all of the things they couldn't do together in order
to make sure they didn't give into their seemingly uncontrollable desire
to make out with one another. But when they found themselves alone in
Dana's condo, making gift bags for her upcoming bachlorette party, the
rules flew right out the window. Alice and Dana had both a passionate
and playful session of making love, clearly showing the love that these
two friends had for one another. After a short period of confusion and
turmoil, Alice was soon dating Dana. They were at their happiest together
and naturally fell into a romantic relationship that put them both at
complete ease with one another, willing to experiment and play to make
one another happy in their sex life. But the first sign of trouble came
with Alice running into Gabby Deveaux who confessed to dating and being
in love with Lara Perkins, the woman that Alice had helped Dana to get
over in Season One. The woman that Dana never really wanted to break
up with but did so because of her own fears at being outed as a lesbian.
Something that was no longer an issue. Alice slowly found herself becoming
clingy and insecure and hating herself for acting this way. Season Two
ended with Alice admitting all of her fears to Dana who appeared to
understand them and wanted to help Alice work through them to make them
that much stronger as a couple.
SEASON
THREE: The gap of time between Season Two and Season Three, precisely
six months, created a mystery of sort when it came to everything that
happened to Alice during that time. What we do know is that Dana said
she needed closure with Lara and then Dana and Alice broke up as a romantic
couple. Whether or not Dana said she needed closure during, before,
or after the break up is debatable. Alice began the season speaking
on The Chart about Dana and Lara's relationship and her break up with
Dana, taking pills on the air and despite her humorous facade, appearing
distraught with everything that had occurred. We saw the beginning of
her friendship with Helena Peabody, who took care of her when she broke
down into tears during a Yoga session, encouraged her to attend a support
group to help her heal, hired a maid to clean her messy apartment, and
personally supervised both the destruction of Alice's shrine to Dana
and the unceremonious dumping of all of the sex toys Alice had used
with Dana onto the athlete and her chef in The Planet. It was a long
and painful process but eventually Alice found herself getting over
Dana romantically, aided by a passionate night of sex with Uta, who
she met while attending a speed dating session with Helena.
The
happiness that Alice felt at finally being "free" of Dana
was soon destroyed by the knowledge that Dana had breast cancer and
was undergoing surgery. From that moment on, Alice dedicated herself
to Dana, taking Lara's place when the chef couldn't deal with Dana's
increasingly hostile treatment. Slowly it seemed that despite the effects
of chemotherapy that Dana was indeed on the mend and so were her feelings
for Alice. Subtle flirting and jealous remarks on Dana's part gave Alice
hope that perhaps they might be making their way back to one another
romantically. But then she received a phone call from Dana and was soon
watching the woman she loved being wheeled away from her in the hospital.
In a few short days Dana would be dead and Alice would be devastated,
finding her only solace and understanding in the arms of a returned
Lara. But the sex, as passionate as it appeared, was sad and almost
empty. Leaving Lara concerned for Alice, particularly after Alice confessed
she needed Lara to hurt her so she could feel something, anything, again.
The season closed with Alice wanting to find out how Lara really feels
about her and what she thinks is going on between them. It appeared
that Lara about to tell Alice precisely that when Tina decided to make
an interruption but Alice soon found herself in a role reversal, taking
care of Helena, when the heiress finds herself cut off from the family
fortune after a series of heartfelt but unfortunate financial decisions.
SEASON
FOUR: Who knows? Will Alice continue her relationship with Lara
but in a more healthy and open manner? Will Alice find love with Helena
as she helps her friend learn to live without money and her reliance
on trying to buy love with it? There are a lot of things that could
happen to our favorite character in this season and we encourage you
to write down your own ideas in the form of a fanfic and send it our
way.
